Upcoming Changes to Amazon Royalty Rates and Printing Costs – What You Need to Know

Amazon has announced upcoming changes to its royalty structure and print cost model that will take effect on June 10, 2025.

These updates may have significant implications for authors and publishers, particularly those with lower-priced print books.

Key Updates:

  • Royalty Rate Adjustment:
For paperback books priced below certain thresholds (e.g., under $9.99 USD or local currency equivalents), the royalty rate will be reduced from 60% to 50%. This change could result in zero royalties for titles that do not meet the new pricing criteria. Authors and publishers are advised to review and adjust their list prices accordingly to avoid revenue loss.
  • Reduction in Color Printing Costs:
In a separate update, Amazon is reducing color printing costs for paperback books in selected marketplaces. This change may provide new opportunities for more competitive pricing or improved profit margins on color print editions.
